Sol, also called the Sol System, is the gravitationally bound system of the Sun and the astronomical objects bound in orbit around it. This includes the eight planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and in theory Planet X, and formerly Pluto), their moons (two of which are notably larger than Mercury), and various other (smaller) objects, such as asteroids and comets.

Mystic Arts[]

The mystic arts meant understanding how life is made from a small handful of elements, of purifying it and using the cycle in such a way to suit the needs of oneself and others. The way of a mystic is not about one's actions, but their sights and identities.

Flora and fauna[]

Flora varies greatly between the eight planets, depending on the weather and climate. While the desolate, frozen landscapes of Neptune do not allow for much flora to thrive, warm, moist landscapes on Earth allow for a diversity of plant life to survive. Fauna is used primarily as a source of food and transport. They are also used as a source of clothing, and some animals are even an icon for religious beliefs, in terms of the Astral Plane. Flora is utilized for decorations, gifts, tea, and much more.

Occupations[]

Main article: Jobs and occupations in the D.I.T. Literary Universe

There are a diversity of occupations in the star system, most of which are associated with the fulfillment of the basic needs of citizens. Certain places, such as Superhero University, specialize in training and preparing citizens in the handling and developing of professions. While there are only a select few careers to pursue in the Saturnian civilization, a wide range of occupations is open to people in Earth and Neptune due to their large economies and numerous industries.

Cuisine[]

Main article: Foodstuff

Cuisine was a style of cooking characterized by distinctive ingredients, techniques and dishes, and usually associated with a specific culture or geographic region. Regional variation in cuisine, however, is quite common. At its base, however, foodstuff was nourishment needed for all sentient and most non-sentient beings to survive.

Economy[]

The economy is the macroeconomic combination of national and international production, consumption, and trade. It can be broken down and represented in various ways, but it is inseparable from the astrography and ecological make up of Sol. All eight planets have, or previously had, developed economic systems. Earth and Uranus have developed sophisticated and advanced economic systems to facilitate and supplement their daily life, while Venus and Saturn have relatively small systems based on subsistence and made less impact on their surroundings. It is important to note that economic differences between major international eras are negligible.

At the heart of the economy is international trade. National and planetary trade can support a local economy, but, in many cases, the high levels of economic interaction and the massive scale of exchange required for an advanced society can only be funded by interplanetary exports. While some planets maintain their own shipping fleets, most rely on large freight firms or independent freight haulers to carry their goods along major sublanes. While the Imperial Period saw dramatic increases in state control and centralization of economic procedures, it had a great effect on the international economy. The economy returned to normal after COVID-19. Under government law, all wage-earning beings are required to pay income tax.The "Economic Ghost" is the term given to the underworld market, free from the restrictions of the NoHead Empire. The invisible economy was composed of major underworld occupations such as crime lords, criminalized engineers, drug dealers, smugglers, pirates, slavers, and mercenaries; occupations such as accountants, bodyguards, professional women, and cooks that served the upper echelon, petty criminals seeking to emulate the upper echelon, and bounty hunters seeking to arrest the upper echelon.

Currency[]

"An army they may have, yet there is no weapon more effective than money."
Willie the Banker[src]

Currency refers to money used as a principal medium of exchange within a particular country or territory, introduced into circulation by the appropriate regional authority over economic policy. A variety of currencies are used throughout civilization, from dollar bills to leprechaun gold. For instance, the Euro (given the symbol ; HTML character entity €, Unicode character 0x20AC, although Windows maps this to the usually-invalid character code 128) is a Fobble money currency used in Europe.

Politics[]

Main article: Politics

Politics and government are based around several political systems, each of which has its distinctive strengths and weaknesses. Those involved in governing and formulating public policy were known as politicians. Most societies had their own political system. Most political systems had their own constitution and law system. However, those regions that were part of the U.S. Government were bound by their allegiance to the U.S. Constitution. The United Nations and even more so, the Council of the Sun had systems encapsulating the others. Most countries had a head of state — usually in the form of a king, a queen, a president, or a prime minister. The head of state could be chosen by inheritance, or through an election. Within many international governments, politics had become, by the time of the First NoHead War, saturated with corruption by politicians who focused on their own self-advancement and greed. This state of political affairs was exploited by at least two NoHeads (Mr. Crooked NoHead and Mr. Stupid NoHead).[1]

Society[]

Society is a major part of life in the eight planets. Social classes are usually based upon titles, wealth, power, and accomplishments. Although people are usually born into their social rank, there are some exceptions in which people can gain a higher position due to important service to the influential and powerful. Society differs between planets, as the peaceful Saturnians have nowhere near as complicated of a society as Neptune or Earth. However, it was not always efficient as Sebiscuits Cardarphen had always doubted the system worked, and extragalactic beings Genesis and Wanda both saw it as a joke.[2][3]

Status, equality, and prejudices[]

Slimebreeds and the Dangers They Pose to a Peaceful Neurotypical Society, an example of the prejudice that exists in Sol.

Perhaps the only true two forms of prejudice in the mutant community, both of which were very pervasive until the 2070s, seemed to exist towards those naturally unable to perform mutantry, and those differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical, as well as their relatives and descendants. Tensions between Fobbles and mutants led to the signing of the PROM in 1723.

Military and weaponry[]

Each planet, save for the Saturnian Monks, has a distinct military system.

Organizations[]

There are a multitude of organizations in the eight planets. They range from vigilante fighting groups to councils of elders dedicated to the peaceful governing of a planet.

Education[]

"Is there a superhero college?"
"There used to be.
"
―Baby Intelligence and the second apprentice of Merlin[src]

Education is a crucial topic in all eight planets. A school is a location where individuals can receive an education in various subjects. Central Park East High School is a state high school in the United States of America that Troy Newell, Fagin Ford, and Bridgett all attended.[4] Unfortunately, the school was burned down in July of 2032 and its burnt-out remains were surrounded by a chain-link fence topped with barbwire and bearing a NO TRESPASSING sign from the NYC Police Department, while what was probably an ornithopter patrolled the area to make sure any would-be trespassers stayed well away.[5] An academy is an institution for higher learning. The NoHead Preparatory Institution trained aspiring underage NoHeads.[6] The Academy of Piloting was a training academy for adolescents who aspired to become pilots. Gregory Thompson was in attendance. The academy also had long-term field trips, as Gregory and his peers ended up camping in the Sahara for two weeks.[7] An advertisement promoting a stunt flying course it offered appeared at Merchant Alley in 1980.[8]

There are many universities located throughout Sol. Most taught the liberal arts of a society's particulars. Superhero University is the American mutant college, located in California. It takes students from all over North America. Like most mutant schools, Superhero University is protected from Fobbles in order to prevent their ways of teaching being revealed, as well as protect the students and schools themselves from any harm.[9]

Culture[]

Culture is very diverse in the eight planets. This diversity ranges from visual arts, including portraits and paintings, to sacred rituals and dances.

Architecture[]

Artistic and creative architecture is seen all throughout the star system, ranging from the eight planets, all using different materials to design buildings, such as ice, metal, and stone, which shows that constructions are composed of different material types depending on the climate of each planet and locally available equipment, in addition to the inheritance and cultural traditions of each region. Small huts, palaces, and temples are examples of common architectural works.

Fashion[]

A bracelet

"You still wear it? The snake bracelet?"
"That'd be correct, Josh. The snake is also the symbol of rebirth because of its apparent ability to be rejuvenated through the shedding of its skin, also which holds the meaning of symbol of life throwing away the past and continuing to live, which is what... which is what I've experienced ever since I met you and Steven. So I feel like they both symbolize me, well, relatively well.
"
―Josh Hogan and Summer Petersen[src]

People throughout the star system wear many different types of clothing and other accessories depending on the planet they hail from and their social status as a form of self-expression and autonomy. A kind of jewelry owned by both Summer Petersen and Becca Carter; Carter's bracelet was made of a silver material. When she went to school, Petersen wore two bracelets, both of which she acquired under mysterious circumstances. The first was a snake-like one which she wore on her right arm. The snake is also the symbol of rebirth, which holds the meaning of symbol of life throwing away the past and continuing to live, which made Petersen believe that both of them symbolized her well. Summer Petersen had never been a big fan of jewelry, but she wore her bracelets for her own pleasure to accentuate her delicate arms and decorate her bulky yet well-rounded body. She would often keep these bands as the only things on her body other than her bra when she was alone. Promoted by the NoHead Empire, Imperial chi, or Imp-chi, resulted in dull gray clothing being considered fashionable.[10] The Madakoran-style bob haircut was as a non-binary's hairstyle in which the hair was cut short evenly all round the head.[citation needed]

Humor[]

Bailey Dennings

"Knock, knock."
"Who's there?"
"Idiot."
"Idiot who?"
"Sorry, didn't realize you were a raven!! Ah ha, hahahaha!"
"Are all the torapps deranged?"
"No! Don't go, I've got loads more!
"
―The Comedic Male Torapp and Sebiscuits Cardarphen[src]

Humor is the quality of being comical or amusing, often conveyed in jokes. One joke was, for instance, about Telekinibabe destroying the Necrehulk in the Yellowstone Base and the event being pretty "lit". It was told by an utterly relieved Bailey Dennings to a distraught Carol Wilcox in 2030. Wilcox did not find it funny, however, and scornfully told Dennings to be quiet.[11] One type of joke is the knock, knock joke, a roleplay exercise with a punster and a recipient of wit. To mutants, there is at least one "knock, knock" joke about a nevar. The Comedic Male Torapp used to tell this joke to people who passed by him.[5] A prank device is an object such as a Pungent Pop used for mischief.[12] Smelly Prills are one such joke product. A man named Cooper Phelps exploded eight-hundred of them by dropping them from the roof of the Perpetual Seer main offices in Merchant Alley.[13]

Recreation[]

There are a large variety of sports and games in the star system for the recreation and entertainment of its people.

Science and technology[]

Science is a pursuit of knowledge, encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment in order to form of testable explanations and predictions about how it operates. Given their lack of mutated aptitude, and general comfort at finding convenience at that which they do comprehend, Fobbles are naturally inclined to science as mutants are to mutantry, although mutantry is in fact a form of science and is thus experimented with in a scientific manner.

Religions[]

Main article: Religion

Sometimes referred to as a cult, a religion described an organized belief system held by many beings in Sol.

Writing[]

Linguistics[]

BlabberishSinger-Panel-14600

There were a number of languages throughout Sol, with Spanish being the most common. It was not uncommon for beings to speak at least two languages in addition to their native tongue, particularly among those involved in space-faring occupations and those who had attended military or educational academies. For instance, Blabberish was an unofficial and unconventional language. In 2030, Annabeth Black possessed a musical celebrity named Rocken Role, forcing him to speak the language.[14]

German baby

English was one of the most prevalent languages in Sol. Most sentient species that made international contact could and did speak English in addition to whatever native or regional language they might have used on a daily basis. Whether or not a being could speak English, it was usually in their best interest to comprehend it, and most did. German was a language of West Germanic languages origin. It was the sole official language of Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein, and was also widely spoken in parts of Italy and Switzerland. The NoHeads used words in the language to conceal many barriers in Tsala and Yellowstone. Latin is an Italic language originally spoken in Ancient Rome.Although often considered a dead language by Fobbles, mutants continue to use this dead language in their everyday life.[15] Latin has a strong influence in both mutant culture and arts and rhetorics (Librarian F-817 used the Latin phrase "Labore omnia vincit" while tutoring Superhero School students). F-817 and Rufus Black are known speakers of Latin.[10]

Law and order[]

Law and order in the eight planets varies from location to location. A law enforcement agency is an organization that enforced the law under the authority of some government. Most were referred to as police, a police force, or security force. Law enforcement agencies throughout international history took on different names and functions. Some organizations such as the S.M.S.B. took on other duties as soldiers and diplomats.[16] Law enforcement organizations were generally divided into three jurisdictional divisions although sometimes an agency could perform functions that were a part of all three. There were agencies that served various other functions including counter-terrorism and political enforcement.[17]

Migration[]

Migration is the international movement of people between the eight planets, or more often their respective continents and territories. Although migration was relatively rare for much of history, the outbreak of the Second NoHead War saw the mass settlement of Uranians on Earth, as well as large waves of refugees attempting to escape the war.[18] With the war's conclusion and the coming of the Melanization in 2035, migration started to become increasingly common across the system.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

  • It would seem that only the visual arts are depicted as a superpower in canon. Ideally, the arts are a vast subdivision of culture, composed of many endeavors/artforms united by their employment of the human creative impulse. These include the visual arts, which are depicted in D.I.T. media, but seem to exclude the performing arts, among them being music, dance, magic, theater, and film. They also include literary arts/literature, including poetry, novels and short stories, among others.
  • It is unknown how Fobble-borns in countries without a mutant school receive a mutated Education or if there are Fobble-borns unaware of their superpowers: this could cause issues regarding the PROM. One method could be said that they can attend schools with a wider acceptance range. (Ex: an Irish Fobble-born could attend Commonwealth School of Mutantry.) It is possible that some independent teachers that are not employed by any school have specialized in teaching fobble-borns. Before the founding of Superhero School, Queenie Williams was famous for teaching young Mexican mutants, and D.I.T. Website states that homeschooling is still common for mutants, especially on Neptune.
  • Blabberish is mentioned in The Super Babies: Pride of the Super Babies, although given its context as it directly appears in The Super Babies: The Blabberish Singer, that may not be the language's real name.
